just in : Lakers made a ridiculous mistake that ruined their attempt to chase Klay Thompson.

Klay Thompson turned down an offer from the Los Angeles Lakers in favor of the Dallas Mavericks. In actuality, the Lakers lost due to a critical error.

Klay Thompson formally left the Golden State Warriors earlier this month and joined the Dallas Mavericks. He agreed to a $50 million, three-year contract with Dallas to play with Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic. Thompson averaged 17.9 points per game while playing in 77 games for the Warriors last season. He also shot 41.3 percent from beyond the arc and 43.2 percent from field goal range.

Another team that had expressed interest in the skilled shooter and seasoned swingman was the Los Angeles Lakers. They even extended him a contract offer, in fact. They did, however, make a critical error by not securing him a lead role.

The Lakers have made a serious error with this. Thompson would have been a great addition to the Lakers as one of the essential building components, even though he did not start every game for the Warriors in the previous campaign. However, the Lakers did not promise him a starting position. Lakers’ obstinate attitude prevented them from signing The Klay Thompson

Even with D’Angelo Russell, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Austin Reaves in the starting lineup, the club could have easily won this. Reaves could have stayed as shooting guard and Davis or LeBron might have shifted to center. Thompson may have taken advantage of the opening at the small forward position as a result. Rather, the Lakers mishandled this situation by declining to ensure that he would start. In the end, this is what made him decide on Dallas instead of Los Angeles. To be fair, the Lakers were eliminated by the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs, whereas Dallas recently advanced to the NBA Finals.

However, if Los Angeles had only been prepared to assure the three-point expert that he would be a starter in the upcoming campaign, they would have had a far better chance of signing him. If he were starting for the Lakers, the roster would appear much better. The Warriors picked Thompson with the eleventh overall choice in the 2011 NBA Draft. Over the years, he has had to cope with a fair share of ailments. Due to a knee injury, he missed the 2019–20 season. An achilles problem kept him out of action the next year.
