Trade Pitch Sees Maple Leafs Deal $77 Million Forward to Seattle in Blockbuster

John Tavares, the captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, has been linked to a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Kraken, according to one trade proposal.

In 2018, Tavares signed a seven-year, $77 million contract as a free agent to play for his home team. He is currently in the last year of the deal. Due to Toronto’s poor postseason performance, he has been the focus of trade rumors as he approaches the end of his contract.

Using a new tool called PuckGM, users of the website PuckPedia may now arrange their own deals. One user suggested dealing Tavares to Seattle in a multi-player transaction.

On theory, the trade proposal makes sense because Seattle would acquire a seasoned captain to guide their youthful core for a season and might be able to contract him again the following year. To even the odds, though, it would make more sense for Seattle to receive the draft pick rather than Toronto.

In the meantime, Gourde, who was an effective third-line center for the Tampa Bay Lightning that won back-to-back Stanely Cups, would be acquired by the Maple Leafs. Gourde is a superb third-line center for Toronto.

Although Schwartz is a bit of a downer, Toronto could use him as a bottom-six forward to give their team more depth.

Tavares Desires to Remain with the Leafs
Tavares expressed his desire to stay in Toronto after the Maple Leafs were eliminated by the Boston Bruins in the opening round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

At the year-end press conference, Tavares remarked, “I mean, I love playing here. I haven’t really given it much thought.” “In my opinion, it’s an amazing location for play. Furthermore, it goes without saying that when I made my commitment here six years ago, I saw a ton of talent as well as a tremendous hockey market and organization that is totally focused on winning.

Although I haven’t achieved what we’ve been aiming for, I must say that I’ve had an incredible six years. Being a Maple Leaf and, of course, being captain are two very special things that I don’t take for granted, Tavares continued.

In 80 games, Tavares scored 29 goals and provided 36 assists for 65 points. In seven playoff games, he added one goal, one assist, and two points.

It was his second season in Toronto, but NHL source Nick Kypreos disclosed the Maple Leafs are considering removing the leadership from him as he approaches the last year of his contract.

“From what I’ve heard, the Leafs are thinking about removing him from the captaincy and handing it to Auston Matthews.” They’ll discuss it. “It’s real, I’m not saying it’s going to happen,” Kypreos stated on true Kyper & Bourne on July 1.

Auston Matthews will probably take over as Toronto’s captain if the Maple Leafs decide to remove Tavares from the position.
