Castleford Tigers  Centre Is Out Of Retirement

League One outfit Midlands Hurricanes have managed to coax ex-Super League player Jake Mamo out of retirement.

The former Castleford Tigers, Warrington Wolves and Huddersfield Giants man has penned a short-term deal with the Hurricanes for the remainder of the season.

Mamo stepped away from the game in 2023 after struggling with the lingering effects of head and back injuries. His decision brought a premature end to his career, hanging up his boots at the age of just 28.

However, the centre has made the decision to make a playing return in order to help the Canes over the final few weeks of the season. The club are currently sixth in League One and have their hopes set on securing a play-off spot.

“I’m really excited to join the Hurricanes and play some rugby again after a couple of years off,” Mamo said after penning the deal. “I’ve been following them closely for the past couple of years and it’s great to see rugby league growing in the Midlands, so it’s exciting to be a part of this. We’re coming to the important end of the season now so hopefully I can help out with the push into the play-offs over the next few weeks and beyond! See you all soon.”

Club chairman Mike Lomas commented: “Jake and I have been friends for a number of years and I am certain he will a fantastic addition to our already impressive squad.

“When the opportunity to bring Jake to the Hurricanes it was an absolute no-brainer. He has an incredible background playing for great teams at the top of the game, both at NRL and Super League level. Enhancing the squad a player with this level of knowledge is true testament to the direction we want to take the club.
