Hull Kingston Rovers’ Right-Edge Attack Troubled Castleford Tigers

-

Peta Hiku, Joe Burgess and May all did serious damage at Craven Park on Friday night against Castleford. And it was there to see from relatively early stages of the game.

The Robins’ first try came when Hiku twisted, turned and powered over in the right-hand corner. The second followed when May passed nicely to Burgess on the right flank before the winger cut inside and touched down.

Hiku dancing forward early in the second half – testing Jacob Miller, Alex Mellor and Nixon Putt – led to Putt lifting his legs and being sin-binned, while Rovers were 18-6 up. Hiku, later in the game, managed a fine take and burst down the right flank before teeing up the supporting Burgess for his second try. Burgess then zig-zagged beyond Miller and picked out Niall Evalds to ease over for a try.

Asked about playing alongside Hiku and Burgess against Castleford, May said: “It feels good. Obviously they are on my edge. Every week we have got a pretty good connection. We all live pretty close by. So it’s not hard to know what each other is doing.

“I think they’ve been doing it all year, to be fair. Every time we have an opportunity together as an edge, Pet (Hiku) and Budge (Burgess), they make you look good as a player. That’s what you want as a half. I can’t ask for much more.”
