As the offseason continues, Minnesota Timberwolves fans can begin to look forward to the next important date on their team’s calendar: the start of training camp. Right now, every rostered player is continuing with their own individual offseason workouts in order to be in the best shape possible for the upcoming season. For the remainder of August and majority of September, players are likely to be off on their own.
But in a little over a month, training camp will commence, which signals the return of every Timberwolves player to Minnesota. The team will gather in full to participate in group conditioning exercises, be evaluated by the training staff, and begin to formulate general strategy for the coming year.
Training camp is essentially the unofficial starting point of every new season. This article will provide Timberwolves fans with the dates for training camp this year, along with other relevant pre-season dates to look out for.
Timberwolves training camp start date
Official start date for Timberwolves
The Timberwolves will officially begin training camp on October 1. This date comes just three days before the team’s first scheduled preseason game with the Los Angeles Lakers in Palm Springs, California. Minnesota will then host the 76ers at the Iowa Wolves’ arena in Des Moines, before going on the road to New York and Chicago. They will finish off preseason at home against the Nuggets. Wolves players will have a relatively quick turnaround between the start of camp and the beginning of preseason.
Location of training camp
Some teams take their training camps to some far away destination, but it appears that the Timberwolves will be hosting their 2024 camp at home in Minnesota. Most of the team’s activities are likely to be hosted inside the organization’s practice facility, The Courts at Mayo Clinic Square, located right in downtown Minneapolis and right across the street from Target Center.
Key dates surrounding training camp
Every NBA team hosts a Media Day before the season begins, and it is essentially the team’s first public appearance for that season. Media from the local area as well as any national reporters will gather to speak with players and coaches, and get a gauge on how things are shaping up for everyone.
The Timberwolves’ Media Day is currently set for Monday, September 30. Fans can expect to hear questions answered from their favorite players, see new official photos of players in full game uniform, and even see some quirky team-building activities and interviews that are common during this time.
Storylines to watch during training camp
This week of action will of course be significant for the newcomers. Joe Ingles, Rob Dillingham and Terrence Shannon Jr. will get their first experience of being around their entire team, and relationships between the new guys and veterans will certainly strengthen.
Unlike last offseason, the Timberwolves head into next season with no major injuries to speak of. Rudy Gobert’s finger injury from the Olympics is perhaps the only injury of note across the team, and that should likely be cleared up by the time training camp rolls around.
Coming off an obviously spectacular season last year and incorporating just a few new names, Minnesota will be using this time to get back in rhythm and begin their pursuit of a championship once again.
