£5M Transfer Blow: Celtic’s Wednesday Transfer Setback

Celtic’s attempt to secure the services of American centre-back Auston Trusty has hit a snag, with Sheffield United reportedly rejecting a £5 million bid for the defender. [Peter O’Rourke] The Scottish champions are determined to bolster their defensive ranks ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline, making Trusty a top priority following the record sale of Matt O’Riley to Brighton.

Sheffield United, however, appear reluctant to part ways with the 25-year-old before the window closes. Trusty has had a mixed start to life at Bramall Lane, being benched for the Blades’ first two Championship matches this season. However, he returned to the starting lineup and played the full 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw against Norwich City last Saturday.

Celtic are now under pressure to submit an improved offer if they are to land Trusty before the window shuts at 11pm on Friday. The clock is ticking, and with only days remaining, the club faces a race against time to get the American defender and potentially other targets through the door.

Trusty’s potential move to Parkhead could be key for Celtic as they look to reinforce their squad depth, particularly for European commitments.
