Everton Striker Has An Uncertain Future At Goodison Park

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could leave Everton after Neal Maupay but only if there is a replacement ready to come in, says Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports journalist responded to fans via X on 29 August to give an update on the Englishman, with teammate on his way to join Marseille.

Myers had already indicated he expected another player to leave after the Frenchman, and suggested that one of Calvert-Lewin or Mason Holgate could go.

While he hasn’t heard of developments towards an exit he outlined the conditions for the 28-year-old to go, saying: “Not aware of anything, I believe he only goes if there is a replacement”.

It would surely be more palatable to Sean Dyche and the fanbase if it was Holgate who was found a new home before the deadline.

The defender is in a similar boat to Maupay as a player who has struggled to make an impact at Goodison Park in recent seasons and spent last term away on loan – at Southampton and Sheffield United.

But late interest is reported to be gathering around Calvert-Lewin from big Premier League sides, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle all involved [Caught Offside, 27 August].

Mason Holgate is another who could leave Everton inside the transfer deadline.

A deal was in the offing for the forward to move to St. James’ Park earlier in the summer before a swap deal involving Yakuba Minteh broke down, but could now see Kieran Trippier move in the opposite direction if a late bid came in on Merseyside [TBR Football, 25 August].

And if the mega-spenders in London fail in their pursuit of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen the chances may only increase.
