Luka Doncic was quick to quell any concerns about his health while speaking to the media prior to Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
Speaking to the press ahead of Game 5, Luka Doncic was asked about his injury status during the NBA Finals. While he admitted to the nature of the postseason being very hectic, Doncic maintained that he was fine and will continue to play regardless of any niggling injuries or discomforts that he is experiencing.
Luka Doncic, much like many players currently in the NBA Finals, cannot be 100%. The postseason has been grueling for both teams, and players will at the very least be suffering from a level of exhaustion as the season comes to a close. But with a championship at stake, every player will be ready to push through and persevere.
If Doncic has sustained some injury, he has done a very good job of playing through it, as his numbers are absolutely sensational during the postseason. During the NBA playoffs, Doncic has nearly averaged a triple-double, with 28.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 8.2 assists.
It has been Doncic’s incredible play that has led the way for the Mavericks, as they made a surprising run all the way to the NBA Finals. While the series has been a tough one for Mavs fans, as their team finds itself 3-1 down, their performance in Game 4 was an encouraging sign that this team still has some life in this series.
Doncic himself was spectacular in Game 4, putting up 29 points along with 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. It was a big performance from Luka in a must-win game for the Mavericks, and the Mavericks will need more performances like this from him if they want to stay in this series.
Luka Doncic was asked what was the reason behind the Mavericks’ blowout win in Game 5. Doncic noted that all players on the court showed a lot of energy, and played with a lot of heart, and that would need to be the norm going forward if the Mavericks wanted to make it a series with the Celtics once again.
“It’s basketball, there’s five people on the floor so that’s huge for us,” Doncic claimed. “Everybody played with a lot of energy and that’s how we got to do it. We got to think the same way in Game 5 in Boston.”
The Mavericks are looking to do what has never been done in NBA history – become the first team in NBA Finals history to come back from a 0-3 deficit to win the NBA championship. Kyrie Irving, who is now on the Mavs, has some experience in making such history, as he was part of the Cavaliers roster in 2016 that overcame a 3-1 lead to win the NBA championship.
For any comeback to materialize, Luka Doncic will be the most integral factor. Doncic is the best player for the Mavs, and they will need him to be playing the best basketball of his career to even get the chance to attempt a comeback.
