Blue Jackets Steal Preseason Breakout Star From The New Jersey Devils

Kevin Lebanc, who played with the San Jose Sharks last season, was brought into the fold with the New Jersey Devils in the preseason on a PTO.

During preseason play, Lebanc was absolutely fantastic as he came through with six goals. While preseason does not determine how one will play during the regular season, it was still an impressive feat. In the end, however, the Devils put Lebanc on waivers due to their salary cap issues.

In the end, Lebanc did not stay on waivers for very long. This is because the Columbus Blue Jackets immediately picked him up and signed him to a one-year deal. The Blue Jackets are a team that has needed some forward depth. Following the tragic passing of Johnny Gaudreau, the team has been trying to reach the salary cap floor, and this helps them get there.

This is a big loss for the Devils who could have used that extra forward strength. Although the cap does prove to be a tough thing to navigate for a lot of franchises. No matter what, it is cool to see a player have such an amazing preseason that the team has no choice but to give him an opportunity.

We wish Lebanc the best of luck with the Blue Jackets. Moreover, we wish the Blue Jackets good luck this season, as well. The entire hockey world is behind them as they navigate an impossible situation.
