Despite Game 6 Loss Luka Doncic Makes Nba History

Doncic really had a tough time against the Celtics in the series. However, the Slovenian still provided robust averages, putting up 29.2 points, 8.8 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 2.6 steals per game versus Boston.

According to StatMuse, Doncic is the only player in the history of the NBA to ever average at least 25 points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals in an NBA Finals series.

To the surprise of only a few people, Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks failed to overcome a 3-0 series deficit in the 2024 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics. After ensuring that that no sweep was going to happen in the finals by winning Game 4 at home, the Mavericks flew to Beantown for Monday night’s Game 5 where they got absolutely destroyed by Jaylen Brown and company to the tune of a 106-88 score.

The Mavericks entered the NBA Finals as the underdogs, but some gave them a chance to upset Boston because of the belief that Doncic had what it takes to carry Dallas to a title win against the Celtics. But Doncic ultimately couldn’t muster enough strength to power the Mavs. He also didn’t get the needed support from his teammates. Kyrie Irving averaged only 19.8 points against his former team while shooting a poor  41.4 percent from the field. PJ Washington, Daniel Gafford, and Derrick Jones Jr. were all neutralized by the Celtics.
