Foul Against Catilin Clark Upgraded To Flagrant

-

Saturday’s game between the Chicago Sky and the Indiana Fever, the first WNBA matchup of college rivals Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark, set social media ablaze

. Fans questioned the officiating after a hard foul against Clark, while the WNBA fined Reese for skipping her postgame interview.

Late in the third quarter, the Sky’s Chennedy Carter knocked Clark to the floor. Referees deemed the play a common foul, and the Fever went on to win 71-70. On Sunday, the league reviewed the call and upgraded it to a flagrant-1.

Though league officials could attach a fine or suspension to the flagrant call, the WNBA did not outline any additional punishment for Carter.

When a reporter tried to ask further questions about the interaction, Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon cut them off.

“This is unacceptable,” Fever coach Christie Sides wrote on X on Saturday. “When will the consistent complaints be heard?!? Something has to be done!”

On Sunday, the league also fined Reese $1,000 for failing to speak with the media after the game. The Sky received a $5,000 fine for failing to follow the WNBA’s media protocols.
