Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo recently gifted the entire Greek national team with a pair of his brand-new Nike Giannis Freak 6 sneakers. It was a wonderful surprise for the squad as they head into the Olympics to face an extremely tough group in the opening round.
During his gifting spree, Giannis dropped a bombshell about one of his Greek teammates emerging as the “next big man in the NBA.” According to Giannis, he may have already unearthed Brook Lopez’s successor.
One of the players on the squad who received a new pair of Freak 6’s was Georgios Papagiannis. The 7-foot-1 center had a brief stint in the NBA a few years back, but it appears as though Antetokounpo himself is already campaigning for Papagiannis’ comeback.
“Papagiannis. Big Poppa. Mini Brook Lopez,” Giannis said. “I’m passing the torch to the next big man in the NBA. The next Brook Lopez. I’m just putting it in the air right now.”
As far as I know, Lopez has no intention of retiring any time soon. Then again, at 36, there’s no denying that the former All-Star big man is no spring chicken.
If and when the time comes for Lopez to call it quits, Giannis knows the first person to call.
