To make up for his lack of postseason action, he focused his efforts in helping Greece make the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, which he managed to do in dramatic fashion. Winning a gold medal will be a great honor for him to take if the NBA title was out of his reach for this year.
However, Greece hasn’t had the best of starts to their Olympic campaign. They’ve suffered two straight defeats at the hands of Canada and Spain despite Giannis putting on a monster effort for the Greeks.
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s incredible form isn’t enough to help Greece at the 2024 Olympics
Antetokounmpo was stellar in the two games Greece played in the Men’s Basketball event of the 2024 Olympics. StatMuse noted how efficient the Greek Freak was on the offensive side of the ball as he tried to will his team to victories against much better competition:
While Giannis did everything he could to get the W for his nation, their opponents proved to be too much.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and RJ Barrett led a terrific Canada squad full of bona fide NBA players to a 86-79 finish. Meanwhile, Spain put up a solid defensive display that made up for their lack of scoring to limit their Greek opponents to 77 points.
With Greece virtually out of the competition, they need to pull off a major win against Australia if they want to have even a sliver of hope of making it to the Olympic bracket.
However, it’s more than likely that Australia will be Giannis Antetokounmpo’s last sniff of Olympic basketball in four years. Fans can expect the Greek Freak to go all out against the Boomers.
