Grant Williams On Luka Doncic

Grant Williams just started collecting basketball cards and hit the jackpot right away with a rare Luka Doncic card.

Grant Williams thinks there is a good chance that he is going to get $1 million from his former teammate Luka Doncic. Williams recently decided to start collecting basketball cards and on the very first day itself, got a rare Doncic rookie card from a National Treasures box that he bought for $10,500 at the Fanatics Fest in New York.

“When I first bought it, I said, ‘So what can I do to get my money back?’ And they’re like probably get a Trae (Young) or like something like that,” Williams said. “That gets me like 10 grand right… I see a blue streak and I’m like Luka Doncic. And I see nine out of 10 and I just run.”

Williams revealed he received offers of $250,000, $300,000, and $500,000 for the card after he started showing it off. That’s a lot of money, but the 25-year-old thinks Doncic would pay a lot more.

“I said I’ve got to give Luka the first right to refusal, just because he would buy this for like a million I bet,” Williams said. “So, that’s why I was like let me make sure I call Luka. I FaceTimed him twice, he didn’t pick up. He’s in Slovenia right now. So he’ll call me back and I got to talk to him about it because this is absurd.”

That card features a patch from Doncic’s jersey and his autograph. Williams plans to get it graded at PSA and believes it is a 10/10. It will be quite interesting to see how much the Charlotte Hornets forward gets for this card. Even if Doncic decides against forking out the big bucks, it appears others are more than willing to.

Luka Doncic Destroyed Grant Williams During Practice After He Talked Trash To Him

Doncic and Williams’ time as teammates on the Dallas Mavericks was rather short, as the latter was traded to the Hornets less than a year after arriving on the team. The Slovenian did teach him a valuable lesson in that short period of time, though. Mavericks assistant GM Michael Finley revealed Doncic cooked Williams during a practice session for talking trash to him.

“One day in practice, a player who I won’t name, but it was Grant Williams. He decided he wanted to get under Luka’s skin. He thought that Luka didn’t come that day ready to practice. To make a long story short, they had a scrimmage going, and he’s talking trash to Luka up and down the court. Finally, Luka says, ‘Okay’. I tell you, Luka went on a 26-6 run by himself. You can ask anybody, I’m not exaggerating. He went on a 26-6 run by himself. He showed him everything, the three, the post-ups, the floaters, everything, by himself.”

“Luka didn’t say a word. Everybody on the sideline, including the coaches was like, ‘Do not poke the bear’. We had guests in the gym at the time and they were on the sidelines oohing and aahing. Unbelievable. The kid couldn’t miss. I’m not talking easy shots, he showed his entire repertoire in this five to six-minute run.”

Williams, who averaged just 8.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game for the Mavericks, found out the hard way that you do not poke that bear, just like Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns did in the 2022 playoffs. Doncic will not hesitate to humiliate you on the court and it’s better to keep your mouth shut when playing him.
