Ian Wright Slams Everton Defender For Poor Start

Ian Wright has singled out Ashley Young as a “liability” for Everton after a poor start to the season.

The 39-year-old has struggled for form to begin the campaign, never truly recovering from being sent off on the opening day against Brighton.

He said: “Ashley Young, you are seeing now, he is getting to a stage of his career where he is a liability for [Everton], in the way that he is playing.”

There is no doubt that it has been a terrible start to the new campaign for the Toffees given that they are yet to win a Premier League game.

After throwing away consecutive 2-0 leads against Bournemouth and then Aston Villa, Sean Dyche is certainly under pressure.

This start to the campaign has only been made worse by being knocked out of the EFL Cup on penalties against Southampton.

Young hasn’t done himself any favours with the Goodison faithful or Wright after missing the final penalty to hand the Saints a place in the next round.

It has to be said that the former England international was a steady head in the squad last season, but he is offering next to nothing now.

Given that he is now 39, there is always a chance that he is going to get worse and probably shouldn’t be featuring for Dyche as he has been.

It says as much about the Toffees that the versatile defender plays so much as it does about his form.
