just in : According to the most recent Baltimore Orioles reports, the top trade target is probably unavailable at the MLB trade deadline.

The Baltimore Orioles have a great opportunity to make a significant acquisition before the MLB trade deadline. But with all the MLB trade rumors involving possible Orioles trade targets, it seems like one of the players Baltimore is most interested in isn’t available.

Many predict which teams will be sellers based on the MLB standings as the trade deadline draws closer. Teams like the Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers, and Toronto Blue Jays seem like prime candidates to offload talent based on the situation going into MLB games today.

Max Scherzer, Kevin Gausman, Tarik Skubal, and Nathan Eovaldi are starting pitchers who the Orioles would definitely like to deal for if those teams decide to offload talent at the MLB trade deadline. Sadly, it doesn’t appear like the market is shaking out all that well for Baltimore.

Texas is probably going to be cautious purchasers, hoping for a summer turnaround with a few returning from injury. Toronto, meanwhile, is only willing to part with its finest players when their contracts are about to expire.

According to ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez, the Tigers are extremely unlikely to trade for Skubal this summer. Although a trade may be reexamined this winter, it appears that Detroit has no plans to part with its ace.

Kubal, who is 23 years old, has excelled during the previous two seasons. The 6-foot-3 southpaw has hurled 196.1 innings this season with a 2.57 ERA and a 242-35 K-BB ratio for the struggling Tigers. He might be the team’s long-term ace in Baltimore, where he would be an ideal No. 2 starting in October.

Contract with Tarik Skubal: $2.65 million salary in 2024; eligible for arbitration in 2025–2026
Skubal could theoretically be acquired with a package of the Orioles’ best prospects, but Detroit doesn’t appear interested in working out a trade. The Orioles have options, such as All-Star pitcher Garrett Crochet, but they now have to cope with a drop-off after Skubal.
