In an ongoing effort to turn around the franchise, the Washington Commanders keep adding to and altering its front office.
By doing this, the Commanders hired the former general manager of the Carolina Panthers, Scott Fitterer, who had been unemployed for six months. The former general manager will assist the front office and scouting departments in Washington as a personnel executive.
Fitterer has been in the league for a good amount of time. He began his career in the front office of the New York Giants and spent 20 years working in player personnel. Before being hired by the Panthers as general manager, he spent the most of his career with the Seattle Seahawks.
During his brief tenure with Carolina, the former general manager of the Panthers faced numerous challenges, leading to a 14-37 record and changing head coaches several times. He now becomes a member of the Commanders, assisting general manager Adam Peters in acclimating to a new period under Josh Harris’ ownership.
Fitterer could use this new chance to make up for his bad general manager tenure. Fitterer can assist Peters in making wise decisions that will put the team back in the running for the Super Bowl. Peters has already started implementing his strategy for the franchise.
Fitterer’s tenure with the Seahawks included time spent with head coach Dan Quinn. As the recently hired Commander will assist the team as a talent evaluator, the link and familiarity may be beneficial.
Fitterer was a great talent evaluator prior to accepting the position of general manager at Carolina. Now that he has a smaller part, he may restore his reputation in that area and return to his original mission of assisting the Commanders in locating outstanding players.
While Peters gets to handle the grunt work necessary to help the Commanders regain their footing and resume winning football, Fitterer can identify free agent and draft prospects for the organization.
