Team game schedules for the 2024-25 NBA season are yet to be released but fans are already highly anticipating the first game new Dallas Mavericks star Klay Thompson faces off against his former team, the Golden State Warriors.
On Saturday, Thompson shared a hilarious meme on his Instagram Story about a preview of the Mavs-Dubs showdown in the coming season.
After 13 years with the Warriors, Thompson is starting a new chapter in his incredible career in the NBA, this time with the Mavericks. Dallas is hoping that Thompson, while no longer the player he used to be at his prime during his Warriors days, can help the Mavericks win the franchise’s first NBA title since 2011.
The Mavericks acquired Thompson this offseason via a sign-and-trade deal with the Warriors, with the sharpshooter signing a three-year deal worth $50 million.
Together with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, who used to be Klay and the Warriors’ rival back in the guard’s time with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Thompson will be looking to power Dallas with his shooting.
Last season, Thompson shot just 43.2 percent from the field but was 38.7 percent from behind the arc. He also averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists across 77 games in his final season in Warriors uniform.
During his memorable run with the Warriors, who selected him in the first round (11th overall) of the 2011 NBA Draft, Thompson won four NBA titles and became a five-time NBA All-Star.
