For the entirety of his 13-year run with the Golden State Warriors, All-Star guard Klay Thompson has always worn the number 11 on his jersey.
Now that he’s playing with Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks, the shooter will be discarding that number and going with a new one.
Thompson was selected 11th overall by the Warriors in the 2011 NBA Draft after a successful college career at Washington State. He quickly emerged as a star alongside teammate Stephen Curry, and the duo became known as the “Splash Brothers” for their prolific three-point shooting.
The Splash Brother has been a five-time NBA All-Star and four-time NBA champion with the Warriors, winning titles in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022. He was also named to the All-NBA Third Team in 2015 and 2016, and the All-Defensive Second Team in 2019.
The NBA champion has also represented the United States national team, winning gold medals at the 2014 FIBA World Cup and 2016 Olympics. After missing over two years due to injury, he made a successful comeback during the 2021-22 season, helping the Warriors win their fourth championship. Just recently, Thompson signed with the Mavericks, where he continues to be one of the league’s most feared perimeter threats.
Thompson’s new situation in Dallas has called the need to move on from his previous jersey number, especially since it was retired by Golden State. The Splash Brother’s new number was revealed in a tweet by Joey Mistretta on X.
Over the course of 13 seasons in the NBA , Thompson has averaged 19.6 points on 41 percent shooting from beyond the arc, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. He also led the league in free throw efficiency last season by connecting 92 percent of his foul shots. Moreover, the All-Star shooting guard has made a number of records throughout his time playing in Golden State, including making the most three-pointers against the Chicago Bulls back in 2018.
Although Thompson’s split with Golden State hasn’t been without any issue, the shooting guard’s upcoming stint in Dallas is shaping up to be a very promising one. With Doncic and Kyrie in the backcourt for him, expect the Splash Brother to compete and shoot the lights out again when the next season begins.
