Despite his advanced age, LeBron James is still defying the odds, as evidenced by the amazing comeback the USA made against Serbia. In the Olympic semifinals against Serbia on Thursday, LeBron James and Team USA pulled off an amazing comeback, winning the game in regulation despite trailing by 13 points at the beginning of the fourth quarter. LeBron achieved a triple-double in the process, scoring 16 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists.
LeBron has now achieved two triple-doubles in his Olympic career, joining only Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks and Slovenia and Alexander Belov of the Soviet Union as the only other players to accomplish it. In 2021, Doncic achieved the feat in opposition to France.
Doncic and Slovenia lost to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Greece in the qualifying round, meaning they will not be competing in this year’s Olympics. Although it could have been advantageous for Doncic to recover from his injury during the postseason, it is frustrating to not see him participate for his country.
On Saturday at 2:30 PM CST, LeBron James and Team USA will compete for the gold medal against the host nation of France and up-and-coming sensation Victor Wembanyama. They also include former Maverick Frank Ntilikina, Evan Fournier, Nic Batum, and Rudy Gobert, who barely appeared in the semifinals against Germany. Germany under Franz Wagner will compete for the bronze medal with Nikola Jokic and Serbia.
