Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving of the Dallas Mavericks are on the brink of securing what could be the most lucrative backcourt deals in NBA history. With their next contract extensions, the pair is poised to sign a combined total of approximately $586 million.
Doncic is eligible for a record-breaking extension in the summer of 2025. This contract is projected to be worth around $346 million over five years. This extension would set a new precedent as the most expensive in league history, reflecting Doncic’s immense value to the Mavericks and the league.
Doncic had an MVP-type season, finishing with averages of 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists while shooting 48.7% from the field and 38.2% from 3-point range.
Simultaneously, Irving could opt out of his player option and re-sign with the Mavericks for a four-year deal worth about $240 million. This contract would keep Irving in Dallas through the 2028-29 season and significantly boost his career earnings.
Irving had one of his classic seasons, averaging 25.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.2 assists while shooting 49.7% from the field and 41.1% from 3-point range.
The combined total of $586 million from these potential contracts underscores the financial heights NBA players can reach. Irving’s deal would conclude when he is 36, bringing his career earnings to approximately $553 million. Doncic, still in his prime at 31 by the end of his extension, would amass around $544 million in career earnings.
