Luka Doncic Is Optimistic Of Mavericks’ Chances To Come Back From A 3-0 Deficit

Luka Doncic has not dismissed the Mavericks’ chances to come back from a 3-0 deficit to win the NBA championship.

Despite going down 3-0 to the Celtics in the NBA Finals, Luka Doncic remains confident that he and the Mavericks can come back and win the NBA championship. He pointed to the Mavericks going on a major run to make the playoffs, and have proved doubters wrong during this entire run.

Doncic did acknowledge that his example was from the regular season, but it did help the team come together and improve their chemistry ahead of the playoffs. While it will not be easy, they will continue to believe.

“Just like we did before. In the regular season, there was a time we were very low. I think we lost five or six in a row, and from there we went up, I think we went 17-2 to get into the playoffs.”

“I know that is the regular season, but it was the kind of point we all came together and the chemistry from there went to the top We’re just going to believe. We talked about in the locker room and I know we can do it, and we’re going to believe till the end.”

In the same press conference, Doncic did acknowledge that he let his teammates and coaches down with his poor showing in Game 3. Doncic put up 27 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds, shooting 40.7% from the field, and 14.3% from the three-point line.

Doncic was criticized for consistently arguing with the referees about not getting calls his way. It was not the Slovenian superstar’s finest hour, and it turns out even his teammates and coaches asked him to stop going at referees to ensure he doesn’t get in trouble or cost them the game.

Luka Doncic spoke to Malika Andrews of ESPN about his Game 3 outburst and performance. He admitted to being wrong-footed and not doing right by the team and his coaches. Doncic promised that he would improve and not make the same mistakes going forward.

“It was tough. Probably wasn’t the smartest thing. But it was a physical game and to get six fouls, I didn’t expect it,” said Doncic. “It’s tough. I always say it’s easier to be in the game than being on the bench. I was more nervous on the bench. It wasn’t the smartest thing to do… this is the Finals. I told my teammates, ‘My bad, you can’t do that — especially in the NBA Finals.’”

Luka and the Mavericks will be looking to get back in the series by winning Game 4 tomorrow night. Even with a win in Game 4, the Mavericks will have to do something that has never been done in NBA Finals history – overcome a 3-0 deficit to win the NBA championship.

Luka’s teammate, Kyrie Irving, has experience in accomplishing seemingly impossible goals, as he was part of the 2016 Cavaliers team that came from 3-1 down to win the NBA championship, in what many consider to be one of the greatest NBA Finals series in history. Kyrie will have to hope he is capable of pulling off the same trick twice with a whole different set of teammates.
