NHL Team from DHN All-Michigan with two Red Wings

You’ll see that Detroit Hockey Now has chosen an all-time Detroit Red Wings roster comprised of players who were born in Michigan elsewhere on this website today. In addition to those choices, we’ve taken a chance and selected the roster of NHL players that, in our opinion, best represents Michigan.

Remarkably, two thirds of this club come from a combined effort from two NHL teams. The Red Wings are one of such teams.

Goal: Winnipeg Jets’ Connor Hellebuyck (Commerce)

During the 2023–24 season, Hellebuyck only managed to win his second Vezina Trophy and be selected for the First Team NHL All-Star team for the second time in his career.

The Jets goalie, who finished with 37 victories and a.921 save percentage, was also awarded the Jennings Trophy. He has a.917 career save percentage in the NHL. Last season, Werenski tied for 17th place in goals (11) and finished 12th in points (57) among NHL defensemen. In six of his eight NHL seasons, he has scored ten or more goals. In 2019–20, Werenski scored a career-high 20 goals. In 2016–17, he was included in the NHL All-Rookie Team. The Rangers captain, who was the subject of trade rumors involving the Red Wings earlier this summer, finished 12th among defenseman in the NHL with 183 blocked shots in the previous campaign. For every sixty minutes of play, he blocked 7.49 shots on average. Over the previous three seasons, Trouba has averaged 205.33 hits per season. Among those were 218 hits in 2022–2023—a career high. The Mark Messier Leadership Award went to Trouba in 2023–2024.

With 33 goals in the previous season, Larkin led the Red Wings. It was his third straight season with 30 goals or more. In two of the previous three seasons, he led the team in points and goals, respectively.

Larkin scored a career-high 79 points in 2022–23, and throughout that time he has averaged 72.33 points a season.

Kyle Connor of the Winnipeg Jets (Shleby Township) is the left wing.
With 34 goals in 2023–24, including ten game-winning goals, Connor led the Jets. In five of the last six seasons, he has at least 31 goals. In 2021–22, Connor scored 47 goals, a career high, and took home the Lady Byng Trophy.

Alex DeBrincat, right wing, Detroit Red Wings (Farmington Hills)
DeBrincat’s capacity to score goals is demonstrated by the fact that he has scored 27 goals in each of the last two seasons, even though those have been regarded as his down seasons. He has scored 41 goals in a single campaign twice. Over the previous three seasons, he has scored 36 goals on the power play.
