Player Rejected The Offer Of A New Contract At West Ham United

Divin Mubama rejected the offer of a new contract at West Ham United prior to joining Manchester City as a free agent earlier this summer, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The newspaper reported via its print edition [4 September, pages 38 and 39] that Mubama was offered fresh terms at the London Stadium, but instead decided to run down his deal.

City now intend to use the 19-year-old in their Elite Development Squad for the time being, before eventually integrating him into their first-team squad all going to plan.

The decision taken by Mubama has to be respected. He felt he was not getting a fair look in at the London Stadium under David Moyes and opted to run down his contract.

However, it was clear for a while that a new manager would be coming in and it may well be that the teenager was given a fresh start under Julen Lopetegui.

It was a big surprise when news emerged of Man City being interested in Mubama, although they did not exactly have much to lose as he only cost a small compensation fee.

The problem for Mubama now, you fear, is that he will getting far less of a chance of making a first-team breakthrough at the Etihad Stadium.

City’s first-team squad is arguably the most stacked anywhere in the world, making opportunities for playing time even harder to come by.

Still, Mubama felt that was best for his career progression and West Ham will simply hope he does not prove to be the one that got away.
