Rangers might profit by £3 million from their tenth summer exit, which will be completed ‘quickly’.

-

Rangers have frequently faced criticism in recent transfer windows for holding ineffective or ageing players for longer than necessary.

Certainly, no one could make such an accusation against the Scottish Premiership runners-up this summer.

Connor Goldson, John Lundstram, Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe, and Borna Barisic, all 30-something survivors of Steven Gerrard’s title-winning campaign in 2021, said their goodbyes this summer.

Rangers also leaped at the chance to cut their losses on Sam Lammers, with the Dutchman’s transformative loan spell at FC Utrecht helping them recoup much of their £3 million investment.

Jose Cifuentes, another failed Mick Beale-era acquisition from 2023, will bring the club’s total of permanent first-team departures to ten when he completes his own escape.

And what’s with players leaving Rangers in pairs? Barisic and Lundstram were shortly reunited in Turkey at Trabzonspor.

Another strange coincidence is that Cifuentes and Goldson will most likely share a locker room when next season begins.
