With a 9-3 record and 11 games over.500 heading into the All-Star break, the Boston Red Sox had plenty of momentum.

After that, Boston led twice in extra innings before giving up the lead in both instances. In the critically important final stretch of the season before the MLB trade deadline on July 30, the Rockies prevailed in the 12th inning, leaving Boston reeling.

The Red Sox have been one play or two away from winning each of these past few games, with the exception of Sunday’s home run parade from the Dodgers. The Boston clubhouse believes that these kinds of movements will level out.

It’s always a chore, man, playing in this environment when you visit Colorado. In these games, O’Neill continued, “we’re just one swing away, one out away.” We have a good chance of winning these final four games 3-1. That’s just how baseball operates.
