Richard Jefferson Picks On Grizzlies Star Ja Morant

The Memphis Grizzlies were having arguably the best time of their lives due to the form of young star Ja Morant . It all came crashing after he had to face the music for breaking league rules and injuries didn’t also help matters.

That’s all in the past now as he is back and prepared for the new season and as a result former NBA champion and ESPN’s host Richard Jefferson has named the two-time All-Star as the player with the most compelling comeback story in the upcoming season. He made this assertion while speaking on ESPN’s NBA Today about who they expect to make a bigger comeback.

I’m gonna say Ja Morant. This was a team that was trending upward. They were the OKC Thunder two seasons ago. Obviously, there have been injuries and there have been a lot of things that have gone on within the organization. But don’t forget who Ja Morant is. Richard Jefferson said on ESPN’s NBA Today

Richard Jefferson on the return of Ja Morant & the Memphis Grizzlies next season:

“[The Grizzlies] were the [OKC Thunder] two seasons ago. Obviously, there’s been injuries. There’s been a lot of things that have gone on… But don’t forget who Ja Morant is.”

Ja Morant’s stock was on the rise after he led the Grizzlies to three consecutive playoff appearances as well as two straight top-two finishes in the Western Conference, unfortunately, the Grizzlies experienced a troubling moment due to his ban. His suspension which began last season was for a lengthy 25 games, then returned only to suffer a labral tear in his right shoulder after playing nine games.

His impact was felt as without their star point guard coupled with other key players injured, the Grizzlies struggled, as they finished 13th in the West with an abysmal 27-55 record. Unfortunately, his return comes at a time when the Western Conference is highly competitive and features newcomers like the OKC Thunder, as well as dark horses like the Houston Rockets.

In an effort to ensure that he has a smooth comeback season, sports giant Nike has released his signature shoe for the occasion. This will be his second signature shoe by the company with the first being a major success both from an individual and commercial point of view.

Fans will be watching to see how his performance improves with his new kicks in what has been tagged a redemption story. Let the countdown begin as revealed on the Nike website, the shoe will be debuting on the 26th of September.

For Morant, his last active season saw him average 25.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 8.1 assists for the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies begin the new season at the Delta Center where they face the Utah Jaz.
